I am never going to forget how cold that day was. The nordic wind was literally punishing the area. However this couple braved the wind, rain, and even snow to bring their fairytale vision to life.
Michaela and Dustin were celebrating their 4th wedding anniversary and wanted to recreate their wedding photos in Iceland.
We spent a lot of time in the car hiding from the wind and trying to unfreeze our fingers and cheeks. Even in that hard and difficult conditions they really let go any barriers to show their love, tenderness, and vulnerability, which is key for me to be able to capture the magic.
We can see so many beautiful photos of couples in Iceland, and we don’t realise how hard it actually is to shoot in those conditions. The weather is unpredictable and the wind can pick up suddenly really fast. The weather can change in every 5 minutes. Photography freezes time and it doesn’t necessarily show you the howling winds, rain, and hail. The gulf stream which keeps Iceland warmer than other lands on the same latitude can deliver very severe storms. Polar lows or Arctic depressions can cause extreme winds and Icelandic storms can be as much about the snowfall as the wind speed. Storms are usually mild in Iceland and life just goes on as normal but when we are in the raw nature and you are wearing a wedding gown or a flimsy dress everything feels much colder and stronger.
My toes got paralyzed for a few days after this session but it was worth every moment of it.
Michaela and Dustin were the heroes of that day!
